Home solar in Cyprus: reconcile panel count and rated power
Check a home-solar proposal using panel identity, count, watt ratings and a worked document comparison, with separate energy estimates and equipment records.

Give the proposed array a checkable identity
A home-solar proposal might describe the array as "4 kW", attach a panel leaflet and show a different number in an illustration. Before asking what the system will generate, reconcile what the supplier is proposing to supply. The useful first record contains the panel model, its stated rating, the number of modules and the document version connecting those details.
This is a document check a Cyprus homeowner can commission and discuss. It is not a roof design, an electrical calculation or permission to change equipment. An installer must assess the property and the proposed system. A correct multiplication does not establish suitability, grid approval or the energy the household will receive.
Keep power and energy in different fields
The Australian Government solar consumer guide explains panel ratings in watts under standard test conditions, with 1,000 W equal to 1 kW. It describes generated energy using Wh or kWh. These definitions help a reader distinguish a product rating from energy accumulated over a period. Its Australian location examples are not generation estimates for Cyprus.
For the order record, therefore, use one field for the proposed panel count and watt rating. Keep annual or monthly generation estimates in their own field with their own assessment document. A row saying "4 kW" cannot replace an annual-energy estimate, and an annual number cannot identify the panels being ordered.
If a quotation uses "units" without explaining the measurement, ask the supplier to clarify it. Copy the answer into the relevant record rather than silently assuming it means panels or kWh. A homeowner should be able to point to the supplier's document for each quantity.
Work through two fictional proposals
The following arithmetic is deliberately fictional. The references A400 and B450 are invented identifiers, not products or recommendations. The example checks consistency within paperwork and makes no prediction of output.
| Proposal record | Fictional panel identity | Count | Stated rating per panel | Sum of stated panel ratings | Remaining question |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Q1 version 2 | A400 | 10 | 400 W | 4,000 W, or 4 kW | Confirm the attached leaflet is for A400 |
| Q2 version 1 | B450 | 9 | 450 W | 4,050 W, or 4.05 kW | Explain why its cover page says 4 kW |
| Sketch S3 | Identity absent | 11 symbols | Not stated | Cannot reconcile | Confirm whether symbols represent supplied modules |
Q1's arithmetic is 10 multiplied by 400 W. Q2's is nine multiplied by 450 W. The totals differ by 50 W. That difference does not show which system will generate more energy at the property, offer better value or fit the roof. Those questions need the relevant assessment and comparable service information.
S3 cannot be added to either proposal. It is a drawing without an identified relationship to Q1 or Q2. Eleven visible symbols do not establish an eleven-panel order. Ask the supplier which proposal the sketch belongs to and whether it is an illustration or an agreed design document.
Resolve a mismatch without choosing a replacement yourself
Suppose the supplier replies that Q2's cover page uses a rounded label and its equipment schedule controls the order. Ask for that clarification in the revised proposal, along with the actual product identity and count. Keep the original version for the history, but use the supplier's identified current document when considering acceptance.
Alternatively, the supplier might say that one of the nine modules was included in error. That is a changed proposal. Eight fictional B450 modules would total 3,600 W. The owner should request the revised scope and the installer's response on the consequences. Deleting a line in a personal spreadsheet does not change the professional design or the contract.
The distinction matters because two different corrections can produce superficially similar paperwork. A rounding clarification preserves the supplied count. A quantity correction changes it. Record which explanation the supplier gave and which revised documents it issued.
Keep the inverter entry separate
An inverter's identity belongs in the equipment schedule as its own item. Do not change the panel total to match a number in the inverter's name or infer the inverter's specification from the panel count. Ask the installer to explain the equipment it proposes and the documentation it will supply.
For the fictional record, add inverter reference I1 with its manufacturer and exact model once provided. Link I1 to the current proposal version. If the supplier later offers I2, record the substitution as a separate question and obtain the relevant assessment before accepting it. This article supplies no sizing ratio or compatibility rule.
That separation also helps when a quotation has optional storage. The base array record can remain clear while the battery option has its own equipment, scope and professional assessment. A combined marketing headline should not erase the identities of the components the homeowner is being asked to purchase.
Compare what the proposal includes
Once the numbers reconcile, ask about the offered survey, design documents, installation, commissioning and handover. Identify which services the supplier includes and which it excludes or quotes separately. Request the applicable charges and VAT treatment. A coherent panel schedule is one part of a purchase, rather than proof that two installation offers cover the same work.
Solarpanel is a place to begin a household-solar enquiry with the proposed product and count record. If a separate property project needs professional assessment, Building provides a relevant starting point for that enquiry. Obtain each provider's scope directly. A link between the services does not establish that either has surveyed the roof or accepted the other's work.
Keep any optional work visible. If proposal Q1 excludes a property repair and Q2 includes a separately described service, the homeowner needs that difference explained before comparing totals. Avoid reducing the entire purchase to price per stated kW when the offered tasks differ.
Retain the supplied equipment record
At handover, request the actual installed-equipment information included in the accepted service. Reconcile it with the final proposal and any documented substitutions. Ask the provider about discrepancies rather than using the proposal's arithmetic as evidence of what was physically installed.
For the fictional example, the useful outcome is a current document confirming either ten A400 modules or the clarified B450 proposal, together with the associated equipment and service records. S3 remains an illustration until the supplier identifies its role. A later service enquiry can then begin with the equipment actually recorded, while generation questions retain their separate energy measurements and assessment basis.
