A blank production chart does not answer the generation question

After an internet outage, a solar app may show an empty period, a flat line or an offline label. The household decision is whether to wait for data recovery, investigate the connection or ask the installer to assess generation. Start by separating what the screen reports from what the equipment actually did. Missing cloud data establishes an observation gap; it does not, by itself, quantify electricity that the system failed to produce.

Record the last successful update and the period when household internet was unavailable. Note whether the property also lost mains electricity, whether the router was replaced and whether anyone changed network credentials. Those events suggest different investigation routes. Avoid resetting equipment or deleting the system from the app in an attempt to make the graph look normal. Preserve screenshots and existing records first, then use the instructions applicable to the installed inverter and monitoring hardware.

Separate generation, logging and cloud display

Think of the evidence as three stages: the system produces electricity, monitoring equipment records measurements, and a connection transfers information for display. A failure at the last stage can leave the app without a current picture even when earlier stages remain operational. Conversely, a working internet connection does not prove that the inverter generated normally. The proportionate check identifies which stage has evidence and which remains uncertain.

Fronius says that an offline system or missing current data usually indicates an internet connection or data-transfer problem. Its support guidance identifies interrupted networks, changed routers or Wi-Fi passwords and incomplete internet setup as possible explanations. Fronius Solar.web support. These are manufacturer-specific troubleshooting possibilities, not a diagnosis of every installation in Cyprus. If the household also experienced a power outage or the equipment displays a fault, report that separately rather than treating the entire event as an ordinary broadband interruption.

Find out what the installed logger can retain

Ask the installer for the exact inverter, communications device and relevant monitoring manual. Recovery depends on what was recorded locally, how long it remains available and whether the system can transfer that history after reconnection. Do not assume that every inverter retains the same detail or that an app subscription guarantees recovery of measurements that were never recorded.

The Fronius Datamanager 2.0 manual documents local memory and explains that retention depends on the logging interval and connected devices. It also distinguishes settings for sending current data from settings for sending archived data. Fronius Datamanager 2.0 manual. This provides a concrete reason to ask about configuration rather than accepting a universal backfill promise. Request a model-specific answer: which channels were stored, whether the outage falls within retained history, how transfer is initiated and what evidence confirms completion. Keep that answer with the installation records for a future router change or outage.

Collect safe observations before requesting a visit

Check ordinary household internet service and note whether other devices can connect. Record router replacements, network-name changes and the approximate time service returned. From a safe, normally accessible position, photograph the inverter's visible status or display without opening covers, touching electrical connections or operating unfamiliar isolators. Send the exact message rather than paraphrasing it as broken. The installer can then decide whether the first response should concern networking, monitoring configuration or electrical operation.

Keep account access within authorised roles. An app visible to a household member may not provide permission to alter communications settings. Ask the installer to confirm who holds the owner account and how support access is managed. If a local reading is available through the manufacturer's approved user interface, record its label, unit and timestamp. Instantaneous power and cumulative energy answer different questions, so do not compare their bare numbers. A useful support request states the observation, the time and the source of each reading.

Reconcile recovered history without manufacturing precision

Once the connection returns, check whether current data resumes and whether the missing historical period fills separately. Those are distinct outcomes. Fronius's support page identifies incorrect date or time settings and disabled archive transmission among possible causes of missing archive data on relevant SnapINverters. That makes a persistent historical gap worth reporting even when the live screen is working again. Let the installer use the applicable model instructions rather than changing several settings at once.

If cumulative generation readings exist at both ends of the gap, their difference may help establish the energy recorded between those timestamps, provided both readings concern the same device and register. It does not recreate the timing of every interval. Likewise, a household import or export meter should not be silently relabelled as a production meter. Record what each channel measures before reconciling totals. Keep any estimated replacement values clearly marked so later performance reviews do not mistake a reconstructed curve for measured production.

A hypothetical two-day monitoring gap

Imagine a Cyprus household whose broadband fails on Monday morning and returns on Wednesday. Its solar portal shows no history for the intervening period, while a safely accessible inverter screen has a cumulative generation reading of 12,400 kilowatt-hours in a photograph taken just before the failure. A comparable photograph after reconnection shows 12,452 kilowatt-hours. These readings and circumstances are fictional.

The 52-kilowatt-hour difference is evidence of recorded generation between those two photographs, subject to confirming that the same cumulative register was read correctly. It does not establish how much was produced on Monday versus Tuesday, how much the household used directly or whether output met the expected weather-adjusted performance. The installer confirms the logger's archive status and checks whether the portal can recover the missing intervals. Until that is resolved, the homeowner marks the portal period incomplete and avoids concluding either that two days of production were lost or that the system performed perfectly.

Use the outcome to improve support and future purchasing

Escalate through the installer when current data remains absent after household connectivity is restored, history does not recover as documented, readings conflict or equipment reports a fault. Describe whether you need communications support, archive recovery or a generation assessment. The solar maintenance comparison page provides a route for finding relevant providers, but ask each bidder to state whether monitoring diagnosis is included and what system information they require before attending.

For a new installation, make outage behaviour part of the proposal. Ask about local retention, owner access, historical exports, notifications, support responsibility and any functions that rely on internet service. Use the residential installation page to compare providers against that brief. An annual production forecast is a different document from an operational monitoring record: it cannot prove what happened during an unmeasured afternoon. A site-specific proposal and a clear monitoring handover give the household a better basis for interpreting future gaps without buying unnecessary equipment.

Frequently asked questions

Does an offline solar app mean the panels stopped producing?

No. It may indicate a communications problem. Check model-specific equipment status and records before drawing a conclusion about generation.

Will all missing data return automatically?

That depends on the installed logger, retained history, configuration and transfer process. Ask the installer to confirm recovery for the exact equipment.

Can cumulative readings reconstruct an hourly chart?

A valid difference can show recorded energy between two timestamps. It does not establish how that energy was distributed across the missing hours.

Should I reset the inverter when internet returns?

Preserve the evidence and use the manufacturer's instructions through the responsible installer. Do not operate unfamiliar electrical controls merely to restore an app display.

Compare residential solar providers and request a site-specific proposal with clear monitoring and support arrangements.
